LORE & TRADITION

The wisdom of our ancestors echoes through the ages, guiding those who seek to walk the ancient path

The Nine Noble Virtues

Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Discipline, Hospitality, Self-Reliance, Industriousness, and Perseverance — these nine principles, drawn from the Poetic Edda and the Hávamál, form the ethical code of the Asatru warrior. They are not commandments but ideals: living standards by which a warrior measures their own deeds.

  • Courage to face adversity
  • Truth in word and deed
  • Honor earned through action
  • Fidelity to kin and oath

Derived from the Hávamál — the words of the High One, Odin himself.

Yggdrasil & The Nine Worlds

The immense World Ash Tree, Yggdrasil, binds the Nine Worlds in its roots and branches: Asgard (realm of gods), Midgard (realm of men), Jotunheim (realm of giants), Niflheim (realm of ice), Muspelheim (realm of fire), Alfheim, Svartalfheim, Vanaheim, and Helheim. Each is a living plane of existence.

  • Asgard — Home of the Æsir
  • Midgard — The world of men
  • Helheim — Realm of the honored dead
  • Jotunheim — Realm of the Jotnar

The three wells at Yggdrasil's roots hold wisdom, fate, and the primordial waters.

The Gods & Goddesses

The Æsir and Vanir are not distant abstractions — they are living forces with whom we build reciprocal relationships through blót, offering, and sumbel. Odin, the Allfather, seeks wisdom above all. Thor protects humanity. Freya governs love, war, and magic. Tyr upholds justice. Loki embodies change.

  • Odin — Allfather, seeker of wisdom
  • Thor — Protector of Midgard
  • Freya — Goddess of love and war
  • Tyr — God of law and justice

The Æsir-Vanir War ended in alliance — a union that enriched both divine clans.

Eddas & Sagas

The Poetic Edda (13th century, compiled by unknown scribes) and the Prose Edda (written by Snorri Sturluson, c. 1220) are the primary surviving sources of Norse cosmology and myth. The Icelandic Sagas — Njáls Saga, Egils Saga, the Völsunga Saga — record the deeds of legendary heroes and the moral codes they upheld.

  • Poetic Edda — 66 poems of myth
  • Prose Edda — Snorri's 1220 text
  • Völsunga Saga — The Norse Nibelungenlied
  • Hávamál — Odin's 164 stanzas of wisdom

Snorri's Prose Edda preserved myths that oral tradition alone could not have sustained.
